Cutting-edge electronic systems for maritime application
Bosch Engineering

Bosch Engineering, a subsidiary of Robert Bosch, is a development partner that offers the adaptation of electronic systems for the mobility of tomorrow, based on proven and tested Bosch automotive series technology. The internationally positioned engineering expert provides tailor-made solutions within electronic systems and software for challenging applications, from concept development through series production. At the expo, Bosch Engineering will highlight the Invcon 3.3 OHW inverter, the SMG220 OHW separate motor generator, the eGFZ9125 central drive and an electric drive control unit (EDCU) and the Electric Drive System Platform (EDSP).

The inverter provides customized control for Bosch electric motors in marine applications. The configurable software and control parameters allow flexible use in different use cases. The integrated DC-DC converter, the AC compressor connection and the integrated torque and speed controller allow maximum functionality. The inverter is developed and tested according to Bosch’s high-volume production process for the highest reliability.

The specific design of the 400V permanent magnet synchronous motor is characterized by its high power density and very high efficiency. The motor is available in two power ratings: 90kW and 140kW. The compact dimensions allow both versions to be integrated into tight engine compartments, thus facilitating the retrofitting of existing applications. Combined with inverters and gear units, it enables customized system solutions from a single source.

The eGFZ9125 is the ideal gearbox to be combined with the SMG220 electric motor. It is designed to achieve very high electric drive power density and efficiency. In addition, it offers very low-noise operation and high flexibility in terms of packaging and gear ratio, as several variants are available.

The electric drive control unit is a central processing unit for the control of the eclectic propulsion system. In addition to speed and torque control, the EDCU manages HMI and display interaction, energy management, charging coordination, the thermal system, connectivity interfaces and the state coordination of the entire propulsion system.

With the electric drive system platform (EDSP), Bosch Engineering offers boat manufacturers a solution for electric boat drives. This comprises Bosch’s own drive components, such as the electric motor, inverter, and transmission, as well as solutions for all other relevant components, such as the high-voltage battery, charger, and cable harnesses. Users receive a description of all key information they need to incorporate the technology into their boat. This includes a system guideline, the control unit software and commissioning support. The EDSP approach significantly shortens the development time to series use. With the EDSP, boat manufacturers benefit from a complete, predefined solution, that can be installed quickly and cost-effectively in different types of boats and yachts.
