Astrolkwx’s ultra-fast water-cooled DC breakers for the maritime industry offer protection against short-circuit situations and power overload within μs. They are available in different sizes and have a rated current between 0.35kA and 3kA. All variants are DNV and CCS certified.
The most important function of the Astrol solid-state DC breaker is its ultra-fast interruption of high powers to prevent the dangerous consequences of short-circuit situations. The design is based on market input and has a product lifetime of at least 15 years, which exceeds the standard lifetime of a typical drive system. No maintenance is needed. Redundancy leads to an extra-robust system, which is demonstrated in the extremely high number of short-circuit and switching-off (fault) conditions without any degradation.
The IGBT technology in combination with MOV guarantees ultra-fast switch-off times. A short circuit is detected within 2µs and IGBT switch-off takes less than 4µs. The DC breaker can detect, clear and separate short circuits from healthy system parts before they reach dangerous levels. Depending on the rating of the DC breaker and inductance of the system, a total clearing time of 10 – 21 microseconds is feasible.
For a typical inductance of 4μH, the system offers a breaking time of 8μs and a clearance time of 7-13.4μs.
The Astrol solid-state DC breaker is a standalone solution for integration in any type of DC grid. It features autonomous switch-off capability and fast switch-off time. Short-circuit interruption is enabled within 10μs. This modular, system-independent solution also features a switch-off current of <20kA, single-pole bi-directional current flow, liquid cooling, internal self-diagnostics, optical (glass or POF) connections, a wire bus system with CAN and RS485, and 24V power supply with internal filter module. It is designed for maritime DC grids.
