Parallel hybrid propulsion system
Esco Power

Esco Power will exhibit the parallel hybrid propulsion solution recently chosen by Thames Clippers in London to power the UK’s first two high-speed hybrid passenger ferries.
The two 40m-long Uber Boat by Thames Clippers being built by Wight Shipyard Co are set to launch in autumn 2022 and spring 2023. They will operate on the Central Zone route, between the Tower Bridge and Battersea Power Station piers, and are each able to transport up to 230 passengers.

The vessels will benefit from a complete Esco Power parallel hybrid solution comprising a unique parallel hybrid transmission with its exclusive ratio benefit, bringing all the installed electric power down for the propulsion, and the hybrid electric solution package with high efficiency electric machines and hybrid propulsion modes.

As a result of Esco Power’s hybrid system technology, the hybrid boats will operate in the central zone purely on electric power coming from the battery system, and automatically use the excess power from the diesel engines to recharge their batteries while outside the central London zone, making them completely independent from shore-based charging infrastructure.
