Cutting-edge, customizable propulsion system
Ampros

Combining its expertise across a range of sectors, including aviation, automotive and marine, the Ampros team has developed and built a cutting-edge electric and hybrid propulsion system that is customizable for various maritime applications.

The Poland- based team has a passion for sailing and uses the best cross-industry practices to ensure that all customer requirements regarding the most satisfying sailing experience are met on board its vessels.

Modular by design, the propulsion system architecture is flexible and scalable, which results in a range of electric and hybrid drive solutions with continuous power varying from 100kW up to 2MW.

A system architecture consisting of core components such as batteries, cooling systems, motors and user interfaces is coordinated and controlled via advanced software. A modular approach to system design features independently predefined interfaces between components, providing a high level of flexibility to satisfying specific customer requirements and future system customization.

Additionally, simultaneous fine-tuning between various system elements ensures the highest levels of durability and reliability of the propulsion unit. The safety capabilities of the propulsion system, which stem from system and software development based on international automotive standards, are ensured by state-of-the-art safety controllers, ensuring all boat journeys are not only enjoyable, but also safe.

Much attention has been dedicated to helm station design, with the aim of creating a best-in-class user experience. Essential data is shared conveniently via a touchscreen featuring easy-to-understand icons, color accents and intuitive buttons, ensuring all the necessary information about the boat’s state is easy to locate at a moment’s notice, providing the smoothest navigation experience while sailing. Moreover, users can also easily access menus showing a specific component’s behavior, enabling them to adjust its parameters to suit their needs.

The Ampros propulsion system has recently been implemented on a 57ft luxury yacht and successfully tested during sea trials. Visitors to the show will be able to learn how the installed system demonstrated an extremely high level of continuous power of 800kW (2x400kW) and 1MW at peak during acceleration. This level of output combined with a weight-optimized system design saw the yacht achieve speeds of more than 32kn. Meanwhile, an installed range extender ensured the yacht was able travel 320 nautical miles at an average speed of 11kn.
