SAVe Energy is a modular battery design that is highly cost-efficient, standardized and scalable. The sealed cabinet has a liquid thermal management system that ensures safe and efficient operation. SAVe Energy embraces the Kongsberg multiple safety barrier principle. In case of thermal runaway in a cell or multiple cells, the safety systems prevent propagation. The propagation is limited and controlled by use of passive heat isolation on the cell level and liquid cooling on the system level. No flammable or toxic gases are vented into the ambient space, but instead lead to open air or to a safe location with an independent ducting system.

The PHT fits between the diesel engine and marine gear with standard SAE housings, and incorporates a built-in ratio that increases generator RPM to give higher efficiency, and decreases RPM when propelling electrically to give an increase in torque. The PHT can be completed with a hybrid electric solution package that contains all-electrical components. Together with a partner, Esco can offer batteries and be a one-stop shop for hybridizing ships.

Het gebruik van accu's en accumulatoren voor het opslaan van energie neemt drastisch toe. Voor ontwikkelaars en testengineers op het gebied van stroomomzetting, is het testen van de vermogenselektronica die nodig is voor de stroomomzetting een forse uitdaging. Het gebruik van een accu-emulator die zich precies zoals een echt accupack gedraagt, biedt optimale flexibiliteit. Met een goed geprogrammeerde emulator is de accuspanning (net als bij een echte accu) afhankelijk van de laadstatus, de laad- en ontladingssnelheid, evenals de interne laad- en ontladingsweerstand. Daarnaast biedt een accu-emulator een hoge mate van flexibiliteit door het feit dat deze tijdens het uitvoeren van de diverse testfasen in het R&D-lab en tijdens de productie geprogrammeerd kan worden. Scheepsexploitanten over de hele wereld overwegen het gebruik van hybride voortstuwingssystemen gezien de vele bewezen oplossingen die op de markt verkrijgbaar zijn. In deze presentatie leggen we de focus op haalbaarheids- en totale kostenanalyses die Washington State Ferries hebben geholpen op weg naar elektrificatie. De levenscyclus-kostenanalyse gaat ervan uit dat technologie statisch blijft gedurende de lange levensduur van een schip. Op handen zijnde verbeteringen in technologie zullen de levenscycluskosten echter nog verder terugdringen. Verbeteringen in de nabije toekomst zijn onder meer de huidige lithium-ion technologie en solid-state en silicium anoden. Baanbrekende technologieën van de toekomst zijn onder meer lithium-zwavel, lithium-metaal en lithium-lucht.

With limited space available on board, the power system needs to be highly compact, robust and reliable. To answer these needs, ABB has developed a fully integrated power system unit packed into a compact enclosure housing, consisting of drives for power generation, shore connection, battery energy storage, propulsion and other motor drives, and AC network supply, as well as an integrated control system. The self-service unit can sit freely in the engine room, and the DC distribution allows fuel cells or other energy sources to be added later on.

Performance and comfort are identified as the main drivers, and the optimization potential of the conventional diesel engines is a nice takeaway.
