SAVe Energy embraces the Kongsberg multiple safety barrier principle. In case of thermal runaway in a cell or multiple cells, the safety systems prevent propagation. The propagation is limited and controlled by use of passive heat isolation on the cell level and liquid cooling on the system level. No flammable or toxic gases are vented into the ambient space, but instead lead to open air or to a safe location with an independent ducting system.

Die Verwendung eines Batterieemulators, der sich wie ein echtes Batteriepaket verhält, bietet optimale Flexibilität. Bei einem gut programmierten Emulator richtet sich die Batteriespannung, genau wie bei der echten Batterie, nach dem Aufladestatus, der Auflade- und Entladegeschwindigkeit sowie dem inneren Auflade- und Entladewiderstand. Weltweit erwägen Schiffsbetreiber angesichts der vielen bewährten Lösungen im Markt den Einsatz von Hybridantriebssystemen. In diesem Vortrag gehen wir auf die Machbarkeits- und Lebenszykluskostenanalysen ein, die Washington State Ferries bei der Umsetzung von Elektrifizierung heranzog. Die Lebenszykluskostenanalyse legt eine über den langen Lebenszyklus des Schiffes hinweg statische Technologie zugrunde. Zu erwartende Verbesserungen der Technologie werden die Lebenszykluskosten jedoch wahrscheinlich noch weiter senken. In naher Zukunft anstehende Verbesserungen betreffen die aktuelle Lithium-Ionen-Technologie ebenso wie Festkörper- und Siliziumanoden. Game-Changer-Technologien, die bereits absehbar sind, sind unter anderem Lithium-Schwefel-, Lithium-Metall- und Lithium-Luft-Systeme.

With limited space available on board, the power system needs to be highly compact, robust and reliable. To answer these needs, ABB has developed a fully integrated power system unit packed into a compact enclosure housing, consisting of drives for power generation, shore connection, battery energy storage, propulsion and other motor drives, and AC network supply, as well as an integrated control system. The self-service unit can sit freely in the engine room, and the DC distribution allows fuel cells or other energy sources to be added later on.

Electrification has become one of the most discussed technology topics in the yachting industry. Performance and comfort are identified as the main drivers, and the optimization potential of the conventional diesel engines is a nice takeaway. On the other hand, sufficient availability of the necessary electrical energy for propulsion or electrical consumers on board, such as air-conditioners or the galley, requires additional volume-consuming technical equipment for electrical energy generation, distribution and storage. As soon as accommodation space on board is affected by larger gensets or a high number of batteries, the interest of potential customers in hybrid installations evaporates quickly.
