Marek Narewski

Marek is a naval architect with over 37 years of professional experience in ship and marine technology, including research and development for commercial and naval applications. He is an expert and technical specialist in the field of marine engineering and ship machinery with a particular interest in novel technologies for ship propulsion using alternative fuels for hybrid and electrical drives, marine robotics, diving systems, remotely controlled underwater vehicles and support systems, and deep-sea nodule mining technology. In his current role he works with commercial and naval ship classification, class rules development and design approvals of machinery and propulsion systems.

Hydrogen on board – ship safety in light of regulatory aspects

This presentation provides a review of actual regulation for the application of hydrogen as an alternative shipping fuel. Current work at IMO and IACS is briefly outlined. Available guidance and rules are commented upon bearing in mind various types of ships and propulsion concepts. The potential influence of hybrid propulsion solutions on ship design and the related risks are reviewed.
